Who is influencing you?

Did you know that if you are walking down the street and find a person standing on the street and looking up for no reason, you might look up, too? But if there is a crowd looking up, there is an 86% chance that you will look up ? We are influenced by the people around us. Period.

Whether we know them or not, whether they have the same ideologies or goals, or whether or not we like them. When you are thinking of going to the next level you must find a way to be with people who are on that next level (or even two levels up if you can).

You can start the process by reading books of successful people, heading to events where you will find people on the next level (don’t forget to introduce yourself), or even reaching outside of your comfort zone to find a business coach or mentor who is where you want to be.

Who influences you is important.

As a young child our first influences come from our parents. In fact studies show it is the same gender parent that has the biggest influence on us. As we start primary school often our teachers will play influential role in our lives. By the time we are teenagers, our friends become our biggest influences. For many social media, TV, celebrities as well as political and religious leaders all have a varying degree of influence.

These shape our self image, the way we view society, our attitudes and values and our mindset. As a business owner, you need to be aware of how these influences impact you and the decisions you are making in your business. Any believe or attitude that doesn’t serve you well and doesn’t help you to move forward in your success you need to eliminate.

In our business coaching sessions we work with clients on giving them the skills they need to run their business with confidence. The first step to understanding our clients is to look at their mindset and what influences them on personal and on business level. We then look at the business goals and personal goals they have for the next 12 months, 3 years, 5 years and 10 years. If those are not crystal clear, then we help our clients to gain that clarity. If they are crystal clear than we create individualised journey plans for them.

Whilst our work focuses on business coaching, we recognise that we are working with individuals and your personal goals will impact on your business goals. Things such as your health, relationship issues, financial issues, planning to have a baby or to retire will all have an impact on you and your business.

It is important that you seek advice from a trusted business expert such as Financial Goddess. Your family and friends may have the best intentions at heart, however they don’t necessarily have the skills, knowledge or experience to ensure your business success.

Be mindful of your influences.

We all heard great stories at networking events, dinner parties and BBQ how “such and such” did “XYZ” and how that turned out great. However each circumstance is different and the advice given to that individual may not be the best advice for you and your circumstances. Before acting on any such recommendations, you should always speak to your trusted adviser and understand how that applies in your circumstances. This is not only only in respect to business decisions but also legal, financial planning, estate planning, tax planning and investments.

Watch your influences and ensure your influence comes from experts in their respective fields.
